BTW, great way to run a book club, imo. Really respects the effort authors put in. I’ve only belonged to one and left because it quickly degenerated into OB GY comps.
I’m having a Sacajawea/gawea week. I keep being told that a close comp for my latest novel is ‘The Lost Journal of Sacajawea’ ( sic)- Debra Magpie Earling. I dipped into it and see why. Indigenous woman’s critique of colonisers - ditto, my ‘Daughter of the Kalahari’. I find the voice in Earling’s novel spellbinding. Now, I’m intrigued by this expedition. It was not taught in my part of the globe. Which account of it should I read first?
an informative read. I particularly enjoyed the section about the Wordsworths--my PhD from Vanderbilt was in Romantic literature and I unfortunately had to read every word Wordsworth wrote! The only thing I wish Christine had included is what kind of donut!--she deserves at least a dozen of them for all of her care and love for Maria Sassi! Christine not only writes to preserve the memory of other women but also works hard to help them at the end of their life! Vivian Shipley
You amaze me with how much you read and how you build connections among the books. A bit of irony: it was by reading about Sacagawea in 5th or 6th grade that I first learned about the Lewis and Clark expedition!
What a great post! However do you find the time to do so much reading and still have a prolific writing life and lead other groups as well!? Incredible.
I loved hearing about how your book club works. "I have a cat" 🤣🥰

I’d go with the lost journal one. The book I referred to is about lots of the people in the expedition.
